Business incubation is a unique and highly flexible combination of business development processes, where people are developed and nurtured in a small business, by helping them to survive and grow through the difficult and vulnerable early stages of development.
Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project offers qualifying emerging jewellers access to fully equipped workshops, production services and technical support. These entrepreneurs are provided with an opportunity to develop their own businesses in a secure and enabling environment.

Training for the Trade
​
Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project offers an industry based “Training for the Trade” skills program that consists of theoretical and practical jewellery skills, taught by fully qualified practicing jewellers with over 65 years combined expertise within the jewellery Industry.
These programmes vary in length and have specific outcomes aligned with industry requirements and individual development.

Skills programmes include:

Introduction to working in a jewellery Manufacturing Workshop

Production of jewellery using the Lost Wax Process using Centrifugal Casting and basic vacuum casting equipment

Basic hand skills training for the production basic jewellery
-
Basic polishing of jewellery using both mechanical and traditional methods
-
The final finishing of jewellery (including decorative electroplating)

Requirements:

Matric Certificate with a minimum of 40% in Maths.

Clear criminal record
-
Unemployed and under the age of 28
-
Prior experience in jewellery or crafts will be advantageous.

Process of Application:

Interested applicants can submit CV’s via email OR hand delivery

Each CV is reviewed with careful consideration

Applicants who meet the requirements are contacted to write a standard selection test.

Successful candidates are contacted with further information regarding start date etc.
Since its opening in May 2009, the programme has, trained over 80 students, with a successful uptake of over 60% of its students entering full-time positions within the jewellery sector.
